Miniature and robust processing modules
Elix Systems’ CommX module brings H.265 encoding for efficient video transmission in a SWAP optimized 75mm x 50mm package. With H.265 encoding, bitrate is decreased twofold compared to H.264 enabling high resolution or multiple stream low latency transmission.
Moreover the integrated NPU edge AI compute engine can be plugged-in to the video processing pipeline to enable computer vision use cases such as object detection or collision avoidance. Such performance has never been achieved before within such constrained package.
Thanks to a dedicated Cortex-M7 real-time processor the CommX module can support dedicated real-time processing for use in flight control of small, group-1 type UAVs in parallel to mission functions implemented in the main Cortex cores. It’s an ideal platform for drone control.
The CommX’s multiple video inputs (HDMI, USB 3.1, MIPI, analogue) eases integration into existing designs and allows customers increase the number camera sensors enabled by the increased compressions that h.265 enables.


Success story
Elix Systems’ CommX module was integrated as communication module into the remote control of a 2kg inspection drone with one bi-directional command channel for controlling and monitoring the flight parameters of the device and 1 channel dedicated to video transmission. The same module was built into the drone and served both as a communication and video compression device but also, thanks to the dedicated real-time processor served as the unit’s motor and sensor controller. This enabled an integrated and S.W.A.P optimised solution and ensured a sovereign design.

Easier development
We provide the CommX module in a desktop enclosure to ease development. The enclosure breaks out the board connectors, includes antennaes for wireless coms, access to programming interfaces (JTAG) and jumpers and a practical on/off switch.
